Brake before you reach the curve. Slowing down while you’re still on a straight portion gives you the most control, because your tires have maximum grip for braking and steering together. Braking in a sharp curve uses up some of that grip for slowing, which reduces the tires’ ability to steer and can lead to understeer, loss of control, or skidding. So ease off the accelerator and apply gentle braking before entering the curve, then steer through it and adjust speed again as you exit. If conditions are slippery, plan even earlier and slow down more gradually.
